JMC COMMUNITIES PAYS TRIBUTE TO CLEARWATER BEACH HOTEL AT FINAL EVENT
Final Beach Party Hosted by UPARC
CLEARWATER BEACH, FL- (6/6/2005) - The dining room and beachfront of the Clearwater Beach Hotel bustled with activity as it hosted its final social event on June 3rd before making way for the new Sandpearl Resort on Clearwater Beach. JMC Communities, the new luxury resort's developer, paid tribute to both the history of the old hotel, while celebrating the prospects for the local community with the elements of the new, through a visual display that included historic photos, artwork and hotel memorabilia.
In addition, attendees of Friday's “Beach Blast from the Past,” benefiting The Upper Pinellas Association for Retarded Citizens (UPARC), of which JMC was “Big Kahuna” sponsor, were introduced to the Sandpearl Resort and the role it will play in the revitalization of Clearwater Beach's renaissance district. More than 400 attendees enjoyed the beach party that featured treasure hunts, fire eaters, mermaids and hula hoop competitions in an effort to raise funds and awareness for UPARC.
Recognizing the history and impact the Clearwater Beach Hotel represents for the city, JMC plans to retain the intimate character and heritage of the old hotel, by honoring it within the new resort complex. While plans have not been finalized, many items from the Clearwater Beach Hotel such as the original dinner bell, wooden bar, historical photos and various keepsakes will be showcased in the new resort.
“We certainly understand the role that the Clearwater Beach Hotel has played in the area's history and we plan to honor and preserve that history in this new resort,” said J. Michael Cheezem, CEO for JMC Communities.
Plans for the Sandpearl Resort on Clearwater Beach call for a 251-room four-diamond quality luxury hotel, featuring a 11,000 sq. ft. full-service spa, fitness center and beach club; 11,000 sq. ft. of retail space; fine dining; more than 10,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space and 115 condominium homes, situated on a 5.5 acre tract of land including 700 feet of direct beachfront along Mandalay Avenue. JMC anticipates commencing construction in summer 2005 and opening in January 2007.
