JMC COMMUNITIES HOSTS GROUNDBREAKING OF
THE SANDPEARL RESORT & RESIDENCES ON CLEARWATER BEACH
CLEARWATER BEACH, FL- (8/26/2005) - In an event marking a major milestone in the revitalization of Clearwater Beach’s renaissance district, JMC Communities hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for its newest project, the Sandpearl Resort & Residences, on Wednesday morning.
The event was attended by city officials, including Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard, as well as representatives of the project, including J. Michael Cheezem, CEO of JMC Communities and Lee Weeks, CEO for Coral Hospitality, who will manage the resort and condominiums.
Nearly 100 of the county’s business leaders and government officials attended the beachside event, which featured the creation of a time capsule filled with mementos and written memories supplied by attendees extending the legacy of the former Clearwater Beach Hotel, as well as items representing the new Sandpearl Resort complex. Speakers at the event included Cheezem, Weeks, Mayor Hibbard, George Fletcher of Adache Group Architects and Anne Bramham of The Bramham Institute, which is designing the resort’s spa.
“Breaking ground on the Sandpearl not only signifies the beginning of new construction marking the evolution of Clearwater Beach, but ushers in a new era for JMC as a developer of resorts as well as luxury residences,” said J. Michael Cheezem, CEO for JMC Communities. “We are particularly proud that the Sandpearl Resort represents the first luxury resort development on Clearwater Beach in over 25 years.”
Recognizing the history and impact the Clearwater Beach Hotel has represented for the city, JMC plans to retain the intimate character and heritage of that property, by honoring it within the new resort complex. The resort’s condominium homes will be located on adjoining property just south of the hotel.
Plans for the Sandpearl Resort (www.sandpearl.com) on Clearwater Beach call for a 253-room luxury hotel, featuring an 11,000 sq. ft. full-service spa, fitness center and beach club; 9,000 sq. ft. of retail space along Mandalay Avenue; fine dining with views of the Gulf of Mexico; 20,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space; and 117 condominium homes, all situated on a 5.5 acre tract of land including 700 feet of direct beachfront.
